Frequently Asked Question

My automatic stretcher or powerload does not work.
Last Updated 6 months ago

Problem: Stretcher comes out and legs extend, but when I push the release button stretcher remains stuck.

Solution: Check below stretcher that "arms" have fully released stretcher and are sitting below it. If not, press and hold button on power-load with picture of arm on it. Once arms are clear if stretcher still won't release, ensure legs are down and stretcher is ready to be safely detached, then pull up on red handles on back of power-load to manually release stretcher.

Problem: Stretcher not moving legs at all.

Solution: If time allows, consider changing battery. Extra battery located in rolling door compartment. Battery is located in center front of stretcher, underneath the patient's feet. Press red button to release battery then slide it out, and slide new one in place. If this is not feasible, power stretchers can be operated as manual stretchers. There is a red handle next to the button controls that can be used just like a manual stretcher (pull to adjust leg height). This stretcher is substantially heavier than a manual stretcher, so be cognizant of that before doing this. Once stretcher is connected to truck, if button controls don't work, you can use manual controls on power-load (press up arrow to load).

Problem: The stretcher legs work but the power load does not.

Solution: Do not leave the power load out of the docked position for a prolonged period (e.g., after mopping the truck, dock the stretcher back, do not leave it out for hours) as it only charges in the docked position. Return the power load to the docked position (without the stretcher) by lifting up the arms and pushing it all the way back. If time permits, troubleshoot by turning the power load off and back on using the power button on the side while it is docked. If the issue persists or if time is a factor (like if you are on scene), just load the patient and stretcher manually. The manual load procedure resembles loading a manual stretcher; docker the power load, mount the stretcher, ensure the black safety bar catches to the yellow hook, raise the legs, and push the stretcher inwards. Note that the stretcher needs to be well-centered to secure in place and does not automatically align as well as older manual stretchers. When removing, be extra cautious not to drop the foot of the stretcher as the power load normally assists with holding up the load during removal. This procedure may require an extra provider at the feet because (without a patient or gear) a Stryker Power-PRO XT stretcher weighs 125 lbs.
